Oklahoma State Looks for Eleventh 5-0 Start in 114 Football Seasons
It hasn’t happened often but OSU is looking to go 5-0 for the fourth time under Mike Gundy.
It’s a rarity for Oklahoma State to win its first five games. Historically, anyway. It’s only happened 10 times in the 114-year history of Oklahoma State football. If OSU beats Kansas State on Saturday, that would mark the fourth time Mike Gundy has done it since taking over in 2005.
The other seasons Gundy’s teams have done it were all pretty memorable — 2008 (Oregon Holiday Bowl), 2010 (Arizona Alamo Bowl) and 2011 (no explanation necessary).
Still, it’s a schedule that’s backloaded so 5-0 might not mean what it normally would to a college football team. OSU’s schedule thus far has been, well, pretty bad. Still, a win over KSU would further propel the momentum that’s already been set in motion.
“They are obviously a well-coached team,” said Mason Rudolph on Monday. “They’re always going to be in the right place at the right time. I’ve seen some film and learned a lot about them last year and was able to see them go through the game plan there. They’re well-coached, very athletic and a high energy team. It’s going to be great to play at home in front of a good crowd and take the next step forward.”
