Oklahoma State Offensive Lineman Jason Brooks Jr. Announces Intent to Transfer
The Cowboys are losing a guard with starting experience.
Jason Brooks Jr. has started 11 games since arriving in Stillwater ahead of the 2022 season, but he will soon be in search of a new home.
Brooks announced via X on Tuesday morning that he intends on entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. A 6-foot-3, 310-pound guard, Brooks started the first seven games of OSU’s 2023 season before battling an injury the remainder of the year. Then as a redshirt sophomore in 2022, Brooks’ first year at OSU after transferring from Vanderbilt, he made four starts and played in 11 of OSU’s games that season.

Brooks hasn’t played this season. According to a report from 247Sports’ McClain Baxley on Monday, the plan was for OSU to redshirt Brooks.
This could play a factor in OSU’s 2024 season, as Brooks was the most experienced depth guard on the OSU’s roster outside of starters Preston Wilson and Cole Birmingham. Should either get hobbled with an injury this season, the Cowboys would have to rely on some up-and-coming youth. Redshirt sophomores Austin Kawecki and Davis Dotson each saw action in OSU’s 45-10 win against Tulsa this past weekend.
Brooks’ decision to transfer could also play a big part in how the Cowboys look up front next season. If he were able to redshirt, the Cowboys would have had some solid experience between Brooks and tackle Isaia Glass. Wilson, Birmingham, center Joe Michalski, and tackles Dalton Cooper and Jake Springfield are all in their last seasons of eligibility, so there will be quite a bit of new faces along OSU’s offensive line next season.
Brooks started his career at Vanderbilt by way of Dobie High School in Houston. He was a three-star prospect and chose the Commodores over offers from Boise State, SMU, Colorado State and others. He played in one game as a true freshman in 2020 before playing in six and earning his first start as a redshirt freshman in 2021. Brooks then took to the portal and became a Cowboy for the 2022 season, earning starts against Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State and Wisconsin before playing an even more increased roll prior to his injury in 2023.
