Oklahoma State Pursuing Several Former Baylor Commits

Published

on

In the wake of the sexual assault scandal taking place in Waco, several Baylor prospects who were verbally committed to the school have since re-opened their recruitment. Five Baylor commits now call themselves former commits, and that’s only counting the 2017 recruits.

For OSU, they’re not wasting any time trying to swoop in. Recruiting is a business and sometimes it’s all about timing. The Cowboy coaching staff is doing their best to get in good position with two former Baylor recruits.

The first being 2017 defensive back Donovan Stiner of Bellaire, Texas. As we noted in this weekend’s Reload, the Cowboys became the second school to extend Stiner a scholarship following his decommitment from Baylor.

The second prospect Oklahoma State is pursuing is 2017 tight end Kedrick James of Waco, Texas. James is a four-star prospect who has big offers from Michigan, Arkansas, Texas A&M, OU, TCU, Texas and others. The Cowboys have been in on James since they extended an offer last June, so this is another chance to try and lure the 6-foot-5 stud from La Vega. Although gleaning too much from social media may be dangerous, it’s worth noting his most recent twitter follow is to the man himself: Cowboy OC Michael Yurcich.

Another prospect who decommitted and is worth mentioning is Stafford, TX wide receiver Hezekiah Jones. The 6-foot prospect opened his recruitment up and, although OSU is technically in the mix after extending a scholarship in May of last year, I think Jones is looking at another set of schools that includes Auburn, Oregon, Notre Dame and perhaps Alabama — all schools who have offered the explosive wide-out.

As a note for more context, with recruits the caliber of James and Stiner, I would be surprised to see a decision from the two regarding their school for awhile. I expect they will take official visits and narrow down their schools before making a decision, as to make sure they don’t jump into a bad situation and find the right fit. But for OSU, getting in the conversation with some of these recruits (and staying there) is a big step toward becoming future landing spots for these formerly committed Baylor prospects.
