Oklahoma State Running Back Jaden Nixon Enters the Transfer Portal
The Cowboys’ rushing depth takes a big hit.
The Cowboys’ running back depth just took a hit. Redshirt-sophomore rusher Jaden Nixon, the lightning to Ollie Gordon’s thunder, will look for handoffs elsewhere.
After three seasons in Stillwater, Nixon will entered the transfer portal, according to 247Sports’ McClain Baxley. Nixon did not dress for OSU’s Big 12 Championship game matchup versus Texas.
Nixon came into this season in the mix for starting reps at running back before Ollie Gordon took the job by the reins. While Gordon became the nation’s leading rushing, Nixon carried the ball 50 times in 12 games for 197 yards and a touchdown. He also hauled in 12 catches for 123 yards and another score and contributed on kickoff and punt returns.
He was also a hero in the Cowboys’ regular-season finale, and a major reason they made it to Arlington in the first place.
Late in regulation during OSU’s double-overtime win over BYU, Nixon caught a swing pass on fourth-and-2 and truck-sticked a defender to gain the first down and keep the Pokes’ drive alive. OSU finished that drive off with a go-ahead touchdown before BYU tied it to send the game to overtime. Without that play, OSU likely doesn’t make it to the Big 12 championship.
Might be the biggest moment of the game! So happy for @Jusynixon pic.twitter.com/2tjT7pJ1Rs
