Oklahoma State Stats Update

In a season filled with gaudy numbers and “any stat you can tweet I can tweet better” fights between fans via social media, OSU rarely fails to disappoint on a weekly basis. This Saturday was no different. Here’s a collection of some of the better stats that resulted from Saturday’s win.

38 points are the most OSU has ever scored on Texas in Austin. That blows my mind, especially considering they put up 35 in one half in 2004.

That’s the first time Texas has been beaten in Austin in consecutive years since OU did it in 1910-1911. That was the William Howard Taft presidential era, for those wondering.

Quinn Sharp’s yards per punt averaged dropped to 48.38 which would be an OSU and Big 12 record if he qualified with the necessary 3.6 punts per game (currently sitting at 3.5).

Jeremy Smith has scored a TD in ten consecutive games. That’s especially crazy considering he’s never gotten more than 13 carries in that timespan and only four times even received double digit carries.

Texas is 1-7 in its last 8 conference games. OSU is 15-4 since the beginning of 2009, both pretty incredible figures when you think about where each program was, say, in 2004-2005.

Brandon Weeden now has thrown a TD in 19 straight games, I wouldn’t bet $1 against that streak ending before the end of the season.

The highest OSU has ever been ranked in the BCS is #6. Today they will likely open at #4.

Justin Gilbert is 11th in the nation in yards per kick return with 29.7 and tied for first with 2 return TDs.

With his second kick return TD of the season, Justin Gilbert ties the all-time OSU record of 4 (held by Perrish Cox) just 19 games into his college career. Next up? The Big 12 record of 5 held by Brandon Banks of Kansas State and the NCAA record of 7 held by CJ Spiller. He has 33 games to get there.

Jeremy Smith is now averaging the same number of yards per carry (6.9) as Trent Richardson.

Only 8 different receivers caught passes against Texas. It was the first time (!) fewer than 10 had caught at least one pass in a game. Is that a deep unit?

After they lit Baylor up for 55, OSU is the only team to hold Texas A&M under 30 this year.
