The Cowboys had the lead entering the ninth inning, and were led by a stellar performance from start Brian Holiday, but it was not enough.

Oklahoma State fell to UCF 4-3 on Saturday. The Cowboys were up 3-2 entering the final frame, but the Knights scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to wrap up their series win at home.

OSU’s ace Brian Holiday came into the game ranked fifth in the conference in ERA (1.84) and one shy of a tie for the lead with 38 strikeouts. He took a commanding lead in the latter. Holiday set a career high striking out 11 Knights on Saturday. In eight innings, he allowed just one earned run and walked just one Knight.

After UCF scored took a 2-0 lead in the second, OSU scored one in the fourth on an Adian Meola homer, and then the Pokes took the lead in the seventh scoring two runs thanks to a Jaxson Crull RBI and a throwing error by UCF.

Gabe Davis came to the mound to start the bottom of the ninth with the Cowboys up 3-2. Unfortunately, his first batter, UCF’s Andrew Sundean, sent a ball over the right-centerfield fence on a 3-2 count to tie it at 3. Then, after Davis gave up a walk, a sac bunt and an intentional walk, a final walk loaded the bases. Davis struck one Knight out but hit Matt Prevesk with a pitch to send the winning run over the bag.
