The Cowboys forced extra innings but still came up short.

Oklahoma State fell to Kansas 12-11 in 11 innings to drop their second straight in Lawrence. OSU rallied to force extra innings, and then the Cowboys took an 11-9 lead in the top of the 11th, but even that wasn’t enough.

The Jayhawks got on the board first with a Jackson Hauge home run in the bottom of the third, but the Cowboys answered quickly with a two-run fourth. Kansas then one-uped the Pokes with a three-run fourth, including two home runs.

Kansas looked ready to put things away with a four-run sixth to make it 8-2, but OSU scored three in the seventh and eighth innings, with a KU run in-between, to make it 9-8 Kansas heading into the ninth. The Cowboys tied it when Donovan LaSalle scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth.

LaSalle then turned in an eye-popping play on defense.

Then it looked to be over when Brock Thompson belted one for two runs to take an 11-9 lead.

Unfortunately, the Jayhawks had their own dramatic dinger still to go. Sawyer Smith walked off with a game and series winning three-run moonshot.

With the loss, the Cowboys fall to 12-12 on the season and 1-5 in Big 12 play. The series finale takes place at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
