The Cowboys have won 17 of their past 20 games after topping the Shockers in the midweek.

Oklahoma State defeated Wichita State 8-5 on Tuesday in O’Brate Stadium, getting big outings from a pair of transfers.

Griffin Doersching and David Mendham combined to go 4-for-8 at the plate with five RBIs and two runs scored. Both recorded RBIs in the first inning. Doersching grounded out second base, but Roc Riggio was able to score from third. Mendham was the next batter, and he doubled to left center, scoring Zach Ehrhard.

The Cowboys didn’t score again until the sixth inning, when Doersching showed his ridiculous power, reaching across the plate and hitting a baseball that might still be in the air. It was a two-run shot, also scoring Jake Thompson. It was Doersching’s second home run of the season. OSU’s technology said the ball went 500 feet and had a 110 MPH exit velocity.

Mendham added to his RBI tally in the seventh when he had an infield single that scored Ehrhard. It was Mendham’s third hit of the game.

Trevor Martin, OSU’s closer, got the midweek start. He threw three innings where he allowed one run off three hits while striking out four. Hueston Morrill, normally a middle infielder, got his first work on the mound this season, and he was efficient. Morrill was awarded the win after pitching two innings where he didn’t allow a base runner and struck out four batters.

The No. 3 Cowboys head to West Virginia this weekend for a series against the Mountaineers. West Virginia is 5-1 in Big 12 games this season, which puts the Mountaineers atop the Big 12. First pitch for Friday’s game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (central) on ESPN+.
