The Cowboys’ Tuesday night game against Dallas Baptist started at 6:06 p.m., and nearly five hours later, Campbell Smithwick put an end to the festivities.

Smithwick hit a walk-off home run to give the Cowboys a 6-5 win. The game featured a lightning delay and extra innings before ending four hours and 58 minutes after it started.

A catcher, Smithwick spent the past two seasons at Ole Miss, and his solo shot in the 10th marked his first home run in a Cowboy uniform.

The Cowboys had to battle back to get to the point of the walk off.

OSU struck first when Brock Thompson hit a two-run home run in the first inning that also scored Alex Conover, but then the Patriots rattled off five runs in a row over the next three innings.

But then the Cowboys got the long ball going again.

Colin Brueggemann hit a two-run home run in the sixth, and then TP Wentworth sent the very next pitch over the fence for a solo shot, tying the game at 5.

Two OSU sophomores showed out on the mound.

Righty Stormy Rhodes threw 3 2/3 innings where he allowed an unearned run off two hits while striking out four and walking no one.

Noah Wech has had as impressive a start to the season as any Cowboy, and he came on to close, throwing the final three innings where he didn’t give up a run.

The Cowboys advance to 12-4 on the season and travel to UCF this weekend to open Big 12 play.
