OSU Commit Cole Birmingham Pushing for Star Teammate Deondrick Glass to Join Him

Cole Birmingham’s commitment to Oklahoma State over the weekend was a massive recruiting win, but his presence alone on OSU’s recruit list may not be all that bears fruit for the coaching staff in the 2019 cycle.

After committing to the Cowboys, Birmingham talked with Rivals.com and explained that he will now direct his influence to try and push for teammate Deondrick Glass, a four-star Class of 2019 running back, to join him in black and orange.

“Deondrick Glass, our running back, he has an offer and they’re in his top 10,” Birmingham told Rivals. “So I’m going to push him to try and get up there, but it’s his decision.”

Birmingham also explained why he picked Oklahoma State despite 30 different opportunities elsewhere, citing his relationship with offensive line coach Josh Henson and his comfort with the coaching staff as key reasons he pulled the trigger.

“I went there unofficially during spring break and I really liked it and they offered me an official visit,” he explained. “I took that last Thursday through Saturday and I liked all the coaches — it was a really good family atmosphere with them, they really care about their players.

“Their strength and conditioning coach, Rob Glass, is one of the best in the business. Everything just felt right. Josh Henson is awesome, too. He’s genuine and straight to the point. He doesn’t work around anything, he’ll tell you where you are and how you fit into the program. Coach Gundy is the same way. The whole staff is great and it’s a really good atmosphere.”

Birmingham is a highly-rated three-star recruit and his teammate, Deondrick Glass, is also an upper tier prospect. 247Sports considers Glass the No. 13 running back in the 2019 cycle and a top-30 prospect in the state of Texas. So if Birmingham’s connection could change the complexion of his recruitment, it could be huge for OSU to help secure a pledge at the running back position for the 2019 cycle.

As of now, Glass has OSU among his final ten schools but is likely looking elsewhere with LSU, Alabama, USC and other programs prying away to try to land him. Birmingham’s presence in all this is an X-factor, but with him in the fold for Oklahoma State it certainly can’t hurt.
