OSU Football’s Bowl Streak May Look Even More Impressive Soon
The Pokes’ bowl streak may move higher in the top 10 after Saturday.
Oklahoma State’s 13 consecutive bowl bids is the best in program history and amongst the top-10 longest nationally — and may be improving soon.
Two of the nation’s leaders in consecutive postseason appearances — Florida State and Virginia Tech, who have been bowling for 36 and 25 straight years, respectively — are in serious peril of resetting their record-long streaks after woeful 2018 campaigns.
Florida State is 5-6 and expected to lose to in-state rival Florida on Saturday. Virginia Tech is 5-6 after (somehow) beating Virginia this week, and plays Marshall next week with bowl eligibility on the line.
Here’s a look at the longest bowl streaks in play ahead of OSU.
TEAM | BOWL STREAK |
---|---|
FSU | 36 |
VIRGINIA TECH | 25 |
GEORGIA | 22 |
OU | 20 |
LSU | 18 |
BOISE STATE | 17 |
WISCONSIN | 17 |
ALABAMA | 15 |
CLEMSON | 14 |
OKLAHOMA STATE | 13 |
All but one — Florida State — are either likely to go bowling or have already clinched bowl eligibility this season. Nonetheless, top-10 in consecutive bowl appearances for Oklahoma State is an impressive mark of consistency OSU can hang its hat on (even if the mullet flowing from behind the hat might slightly hamper the national perception.)
