OSU Hoops: Cowgirls to Take Part in 2025 Cayman Islands Classic
The Cowgirls are head to the Carribean.
The Cowgirls are headed to the Caribbean.
Oklahoma State is one of eight teams set to take part in the 2025 Cayman Island Classic. The field also includes Florida, Georgia Tech, Charlotte, George Washington, Memphis, Miami and St. Johns.
“We are excited to travel to such a beautiful destination and give our players an incredible experience both on and off the court. We are looking forward to competing against some of the country’s best talent from other conferences on a neutral court,” said OSU coach Jacie Hoyt in a release from the school.
OSU is one of three teams in the field that made the postseason last year.
The Cowgirls are coming off a 25-7 season, their second-best record in program history. OSU made the NCAA Tournament for the second time in Hoyt’s three-year tenure, landing a 7 seed before being upset by 10 seed South Dakota State.
Georgia Tech also made the NCAA Tournament, also falling in the first round. The Yellow Jackets finished 22-11. Florida went 19-18 and made it to the WBIT semifinal round.
The Cowgirls return All-American and leading scorer Stailee Heard and a good chunk of that roster, but they also added a slew of exciting transfers this offseason. Heard’s sister Tyla Heard (ORU), Amari Whiting (BYU) and Haliegh Timmer (one of those Jackrabbits that sent OSU home early) are all coming in via the portal. Both Whiting and Timmer come in having averaged double-digit scoring last year. They also added 2025 four-star shooting guard Lena Girardi.
This is the third year that the tournament has been held by Caymax Sports Ltd. It will take place Nov. 28-29 at John Gray Gymnasium in George Town, Grand Cayman.
