OSU added two former five-star recruits in the 2021 cycle via the transfer portal as Moussa Cisse committed via Memphis and Bryce Thompson did so via Kansas, and now Mike Boynton and his staff seem to be in a great position to land another the old school way.

Five-star recruit Anthony Black, a top-30 talent in the 2022 class from Duncanville, Texas, is someone the staff has seemingly gained traction with since things started opening back up in June. Earlier this week, 247Sports’ Jerry Meyer put in a crystal ball for him in favor of OSU, bringing the total tally between Rivals and 247 to five for OSU with him. (Back in September I cast my own prediction for OSU with him.)

“I feel like Mike Boynton trusts me as a player and as a person to come in and play a lot early to have an impact on the team,” Black told 247Sports this week. “Visiting for the second time was fun because I am cool with all the guys. So, just going up there, talking to the coaches, and meeting with Coach Mike was all good.”

Early scouting and talent identification has thus far been huge for OSU in the recruitment of Black. The staff offered him a scholarship last summer when he was an unranked recruit. Last fall he climbed into four-status before climbing again to five-star status this summer. He’s already made several visits to the campus and seems comfortable with the program.

Getting Black would be huge especially with Gonzaga, Arkansas and others looming, and a decision could be coming soon. He was recently ruled ineligible to play in Texas high school sports by the UIL after transferring to Duncanville from Coppell. As he appeals, it does seem like a decision on his future could come relatively soon.

OSU has one player already committed in the 2022 cycle in Quion Williams , a top-100, four-star talent out of Mansfield, Texas. Black would be the second high school five-star to commit to the OSU program under Mike Boynton, joining Cade Cunningham, and would give the Pokes three five-stars on the 2022 roster assuming Bryce Thompson and Moussa Cisse don’t turn pro after one season in the program.
