OSU Soccer Going For Big 12 Title Against Texas

Coach Colin Carmichael said the result will take care of itself, and it most certainly would if the Oklahoma State soccer team leaves Austin with a win Friday night.

The Cowgirls are going for their first Big 12 title since they rattled off four straight from 2008-11. Owning a 7-1 conference record and leading West Virginia by a half game, a win would clinch it. A road victory against the Longhorns would be OSU’s most impressive to this point in the season though.

UT comes in the No. 8 team in the land, according to the coaches poll, and the Cowgirls, despite having a cleaner overall and conference record, are down at No. 22 in the same poll. The RPI is the culprit. OSU’s schedule, while daunting, isn’t near the caliber of Texas’.

However, the Horns have played four more home games than away while OSU is even in its splits. Still, Carmichael said UT is no slouch of a team, and it isn’t. Neither is OSU.

“We’re very confident,” Carmichael said. “We’ve played well on the road this year, and we feel like we can go down to Austin and hopefully get a great result.”

Fortunately for the Cowgirls and OSU fans, almost the same team went down to Austin last year and walked away with a 2-1 victory with a sudden victory goal by Haley Woodard in the 104th minute.

Much like the Cowboy football team, the Cowgirls haven’t lost in Austin a while. OSU has won in two straight trips with the most recent loss coming in 2012. So no pressure, and in seriousness, with this Cowgirl team, there shouldn’t be.

“If we play to our capability, we know we’re a match for anybody in this league and pretty much across the country,” Carmichael said.
