The 2024 college softball season wasn’t even over when Kenny Gajewski started reloading his team for 2025.

Oklahoma State announced via X on Thursday that pitcher Ruby Meylan signed with the Cowgirls out of the transfer portal with two years of eligibility left. Meylan transferred from Washington, where she was an All-American and selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team both seasons with the Huskies.

“It’s exciting to know how bad Ruby wants to be here,” Gajewski said. “But we’ve got a lot of work to do, it’s just the start of a long journey. We’re excited for Ruby, we’re excited for us, and we’re excited to get started.”

Meylan will fill a major void in the circle for OSU after losing Lexi Kilfoyl and Ivy Rosenberry, who both exhausted their last year of eligibility this past season. Kilfoyl, who transferred from Alabama in 2022, was an All-American both of her seasons in Stillwater and was also a top three finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year this season as OSU’s ace. She’s proof that looking to the portal to replace talent has worked for Gajewski before.

Meylan immediately made an impact as a freshman at Washington in 2023. She was an NFCA Third Team All-American and All-Pac-12 First Team selection after posting a 2.14 ERA and 18-7 record. The campaign also included 15 complete games and eight shutouts. Meylan’s numbers actually dipped this past season with a 2.55 ERA and 9-10 record, but those stats were still good enough to garner her the same All-American and conference honors again.

Out of Omaha, Nebraska, Meylan was a highly touted recruit before choosing Washington. She was the MaxPreps Player of The Year and Nebraska Gatorade Player of The Year.

“She brings a lot of energy, I liken her to a Samantha Show in 2019,” Gajewski said. “There’s a different type of energy that Ruby likes to play with, that our fans will embrace from day one and that her teammates will love. That’s what’s most exciting about adding Ruby to our team, she represents the Cowgirl Way in the way she plays.”
