The Cowgirls held an uncharacteristic five-game losing streak heading into Lubbock this weekend, and while they didn’t have the cleanest of series, they did get back in the win column.

Oklahoma State took two of three off Texas Tech this weekend in Lubbock. Game 1 was delayed until Saturday, where the teams split a doubleheader. OSU won 10-1 in six innings before Tech won 4-3 in eight innings. That led to Sunday’s rubber match where OSU dominated and won 8-0 in just five innings.

It wasn’t until the fourth inning when Sunday’s scoring started, but the Cowgirls plated four in the top of the inning. It started with a Chyenne Factor infield single that scored Kiley Naomi. Then redshirt freshman Micaela Wark doubled to score Morgyn Wynne. That allowed true freshman Claire Timm to hit a double to left-center that scored Factor and Wark, making it 4-0.

OSU put up another four-piece in the fifth. Naomi brought in Katelynn Carwile with a double to left before Factor singled to score Naomi. Wark finished the game’s scoring with a two-run home run to right center. It was her ninth home run of the year.

Wark was 4-for-9 in the series with three runs scored and six RBIs. She is hitting .343 in her true freshman season.

The eight-run lead left the Red Raiders in risk of getting run-ruled. And freshman pitcher Kyra Aycock made that risk a reality. She gave up a two-out single in the fifth, but that was it. She finished the day having thrown all five innings where she allowed no runs off five hits while walking none, hitting one and striking out three.

The Cowgirls play North Texas on Wednesday in Denton before heading back to Cowgirl Stadium for a highly anticipated Bedlam series next weekend.

With just three Big 12 games to go, it’s impossible for the Cowgirls to track down the Sooners for a piece of a regular season title, but OSU could find a way into second if some things break the Cowgirls’ way this upcoming weekend.

It would be a steep mountain to climb, as the Cowgirls play OU, a team that has lost just once this season. But Texas plays a good Baylor squad next weekend with two of the three games being played in Waco.

So, if you’re an OSU fan, you’re cheering for OSU (obviously) and Baylor.
