OSU Softball: Cowgirls Rally Past South Dakota State before Run-Ruling Wichita State
The Cowgirls bats came alive in Game 2, but Ruby Meylan was nails all day.
The Cowgirls showed the folks in Wichita that they can win in multiple ways. Run rule or rally, they stretched their win streak to six.
No. 16 Oklahoma State went 2-0 to start the Shocker Invitational, using a couple of solo dingers to rally over South Dakota State before the bats came alive against the host Wichita State. That contest ended with an 11-2 win over the Shockers in five innings. On the defensive side of things, Ruby Meylan continued to impress, leaving the bullpen in each game to shut the opposition down and earn a pair of wins herself.
Let’s get into how things played out on the Cowgirls’ first day in Wichita.
OSU 3, SDSU 2
NC State transfer Amanda Hasler got off the bus in Wichita with one home run in 27 at bats at OSU. In her two trips to the plate against South Dakota State, she sent two yellow balls over the fence.
The Cowgirls had to rally in Game 1, falling behind 2-0 in the top of the second, but quickly answered when Hasler (2-for-2) crushed her first one, a solo home run to right-center on a five-pitch full count in the bottom of the inning.
OSU tied it up in the fifth thanks to a Rosie Davis (1-2) RBI double that scored Tallen Edwards.

Then Hasler scored the game-winning run in the sixth. This time she only needed three pitches, blasting another solo home run over the left-field wall.
Impressively, despite the lack of the type of offensive explosion we often see from the OSU (like the one we saw later), Tallen Edwards was the only Cowgirl to log a strikeout and she went 2-for-3 and scored. Micaela Wark went 2-for-3, that second hit marking the 100th of her career.
Katie Kutz got the start in the circle, pitching four and two-thirds innings. She allowed those two runs but struck out five Jackrabbits. Ruby Meylan earned the win, allowing no hits, walking two and striking out four in two and a third innings.
OSU 11, WSU 2 (5 innings)
With their bats now warmed up, the Cowgirls took it to the hosting Shockers.
OSU scored three runs in the top of the first thanks to an RBI double by Rachael Hathoot (1-for-3) and a single ribbie by Tia Warsop (2-for-3). The Shockers answered with the same sequence in the bottom of the inning, an RBI double by Taylor Sedlacek and an RBI single by Sami Hood, scoring on both hits allowed by OSU starting pitcher Kyra Adcock.
Then a reappearance by Meylan shut the Shockers down while the Cowgirls’ bats kept producing.
Karli Godwin (2-for-3) made it 4-2 in the top of the second with an RBI single. Then Megan Bloodworth (3-for-3) sent a two-run homer to left field in the third to make it 6-1 after three.
Hasler (1-for-2) added to her big day, with an RBI single up the middle to crack the seal on a five-run fifth inning and stretch the lead to 7-2. Rosie Davis (1-for-4) scored three on a double to left-center to make it 10-2, and then got to pay it off a few moments later when Godwin’s sac fly sent her across the plate for the 11th run, enacting the mercy rule on the home team. Megan Delgadillo went 3-for-4 with a stolen base.
In three innings against Wichita State, Meylan struck out six, allowing just one hit and two walks. Her total for Thursday was five and a third innings pitched, one hit, four walks and 10 strikeouts. She’s now 5-0 on the year.
With the wins, OSU moves to 10-4 on the season. The Cowgirls will finish the event with another doubleheader on Friday in Wichita, squaring off with Nebraska at 12:30 p.m. and then Missouri at 3 p.m.
