BOXSCORE

The Cowgirls took control early, and they finished off the Nittany Lions late.

No. 17 Oklahoma State defeated Penn State 10-2 in run-rule fashion.

OSU took advantage of early Nittany Lion mishaps. The Cowgirls went up 4-0 after a three-run third inning that was fueled by a pair of Penn State errors. Micaela Wark (2-for-2) also logged an RBI.

The Nittany Lions found themselves down four runs and in threat of run-rule entering the fifth, but they fought back. Penn State scored two in the fifth on a pair of solo home runs by Haylie Brunson and Meagan Ricks.

But the Cowgirls quickly answered with Claire Timm’s RBI triple to make it 5-2. That might have stymied the rally, but Karli Godwin started a sixth-inning scoring spree that buried the Lions.

Godwin scored two on a double to left field before a Megan Delgadillo single sent Amanda Hasler across the plate to make it 8-2.

Then Timm had another triple, this time sending Delgadillo and Godwin home to secure the 10-2 run-rule win.

RyLee Crandall got the start inside the circle and moved to 1-2 on the year. She lasted two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Kyra Aycock pitched two more and struck out one while allowing two hits. Katie Kutz was shouldered with both Penn State runs in her single inning before Ruby Meylan earned the save, pitching a perfect sixth inning while striking out two.

With the win, the Cowgirl improve to 21-9 on the season. OSU will play Arizona State in a nonconference game Wednesday in Tempe before the Cowgirls’ Big 12 series against Arizona next weekend in Tucson.
