Teams can’t win if they can’t score.

Oklahoma State started its series against No. 2 Texas with a 5-0 shutout victory Thursday at Cowgirl Stadium behind the arm of Lexi Kilfoyl, who tossed a complete game. Kilfoyl gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out seven Longhorns in the win. The outing improved Kilfoyl t0 12-2 with a 0.87 ERA on the season.

Offensively, Karli Godwin got OSU the only run it would ultimately need with a solo shot over left field in the first inning. The Cowgirls added on three more in the third inning. Tallen Edwards hit the second of three home runs for OSU, this time over right-center. Micaela Wark then hit a double down the right-field line to score Claire Timm and Godwin. The Cowgirls led 4-0 after the third inning.

Then after doubling home a pair of runs, Wark hit the Cowgirls’ third deep shot of the game in the fifth. Wark finished the game 2-for-3 with the homer, double, a run and three RBIs. She’s now hitting .324 this season.

Edwards, Godwin and Katie Lott also strung together two-hit games. Edwards and Godwin added singles to go along with their home runs. Godwin also scored a pair of runs.

The win improved OSU to 28-5 and 8-2 in Big 12 play, while Texas dropped to 28-4 and 8-2. The Longhorns hadn’t lost a conference game since losing their Big 12 opener to Houston 12-10 on March 8.

After a great start to the series, the Cowgirls will host Texas again Friday and Saturday. First pitch is at 7 p.m. Friday and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
