The Cowgirls’ chances at a series sweep were still up in the air going into the seventh inning of Sunday’s game, but by the middle of the inning, it was a near certainty.

Oklahoma State beat Baylor 8-1 on Sunday, taking all three games against the Bears in Waco this weekend. The Cowgirls scored six runs in the seventh inning to pull away late.

The inning started with Karli Godwin drawing a walk before Rosie Davis and Lexi McDonald hit back-to-back singles to load the bases.

After an Amanda Hasler pop out, Tia Warsop stepped to the plate and hit an infield single, scoring a run and keeping the bases loaded.

Freshman Montgomery Henderson stepped in as a pinch hitter in the next at-bat and put a ball into centerfield to score another run.

Then freshman shortstop Aubrey Jones really busted the game open with a double that scored a pair, making it 6-1 Cowgirls.

For good measure, Claire Timm singled later in the inning to score another two.

It turns out the Cowgirls didn’t need any of those seventh-inning runs because Ruby Meylan is really good at softball. After getting Saturday off, Meylan returned to the circle Sunday and threw the complete game in 110 pitches, allowing the lone run off five hits while walking one and striking out three.

McDonald was probably the offensive MVP of the game, as she went 4-for-4 at the plate. Timm, Warsop and Jones all finished with multiple RBIs.

OSU is straight up rolling right now, having won five in a row and eight of its past nine. The Cowgirls still ought to finish strong, but at 34-13 (14-7 Big 12), they’re looking more and more like an NCAA Regional host.

Next week marks the end of the regular season. OSU hosts Tulsa on Wednesday before welcoming Kansas to town next weekend for a three-game series.
