The Cowgirls’ series against the Sooners next weekend will be for the Big 12 title.

Oklahoma State swept Texas this weekend in Austin, winning 3-1, 5-1 and 6-4. The Cowgirls have won 15 of their past 16 games and haven’t lost a Big 12 game since March 26, their first conference game of the season.

The Longhorns came into this weekend’s series as the higher ranked of the two teams. Texas was No. 7 in this week’s coaches poll to OSU’s No. 11, but it didn’t play out that way.

Sydney Pennington busted Sunday’s game open in the third with a three-run home run to left field. It was her 33rd career round-tripper, moving her second on OSU’s career home run list.

Shortstop Kylie Naomi and first basewoman Alysen Febrey combined for a stellar play in the bottom of the third, as Naomi made a spinning stop up the middle before gunning out a Longhorn runner.

Carrie Eberle was nails, per usual. Sunday’s outing might be considered a down game for her. She threw four innings where she allowed four runs (only two of which were earned).

On the weekend, Eberle threw 11 innings where she allowed five runs (three earned) off 11 hits while striking out eight and walking five.

Eberle is 18-1 this season with a 0.93 ERA through 127.1 innings pitched. She has struck out 120 batters this year and walked only 48.

So now all eyes shift to next weekend in Cowgirl Stadium.

The Sooners are 39-1 this season, with their only loss coming to Georgia on April 20.

OU hasn’t lost in conference play, but if the Cowgirls can take two of three against their Bedlam rivals next weekend, OSU would take the Big 12 championship.

The Cowgirls haven’t taken a game off the Sooners since 2011 and are 69-90 against OU all time.
