OSU Target Israel Antwine Decommits from Ole Miss

One of Oklahoma State’s top targets for 2018 is back on the market.

Three-star defensive tackle Israel Antwine announced on twitter last night that he was rescinding his commitment to Ole Miss.

“The past couple of weeks have been difficult for me. However I would like to thank my family and coaches for helping me through this recruiting process and plans for my future. I want to thank the Ole Miss staff for giving me the opportunity to continue my career as a student athlete, but due to recent events I will be re-opening the recruiting process and will re-evaluate where I will continue my collegiate career… I will not be open to immediate interviews due to me preparing for the start of my Sr. season however I will not prolong the recruiting process either. I just want to make sure I make the right decision. thank you.”

Antwine’s decision to decommit from the Rebels isn’t surprising. He said himself he was reconsidering his commitment just last week. Considering what Ole Miss is dealing with involving potential sanctions and head coach Hugh Freeze stepping down, you can’t blame him.

You have to expect Oklahoma State to be in the running for the talented defensive tackle, though their stiffest competition may come from a late contender. Texas made an offer to Antwine on July 26, when it looked like he would eventually decommit. Now, 247Sports has the Longhorns as the overwhelming favorites to land the Oklahoma City area prospect from Millwood High.

If OSU is going to land him, they might not have long to swing his favor in their direction. Antwine says he won’t draw out the recruiting process, which makes me believe he has a short list of landing spots he’s leaning toward.
