OSU to Remember the 10 during Bedlam Game on Saturday

It’s unbelievable to me that we’re almost 17 years removed from that tragic night after a road game in Boulder. The OSU family was devastated when eight members of the basketball program and two pilots were lost on January 27, 2001 in a plane crash.

As is the yearly custom — and since it’s the last home game before the anniversary — Oklahoma State will remember those lost and their families during the festivities of Bedlam Round 2 this Saturday inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

“It’s a huge deal for our team and especially for me, being an Oklahoma kid,” Mitchell Solomon told PFB “it’s a really special opportunity to be able contribute to a game like that.”

In a video released by Oklahoma State, a couple of former Cowboys talked about what the R10 logo on this year’s new uniform set means.

Victor Williams, who was a sophomore on the team that lived through that nightmare, talked about what he remembered, “It was a very tragic time. We lost 10 great people.”

Ivan McFarlin came in the next year and saw the effects up close with his teammates, coaches and the community as a whole.

“Most of them were friends, family, teammates,” said McFarlin. “We cherish the moments that we had as we go on to the future.

“When they [the current players] represent Oklahoma State and they see that decal on their jersey, that they’re not only playing for themselves or playing for the school, but they’re playing for those 10 members, as well.”

Specific plans for Saturday have not been announced but you can be sure that OSU will handle it as tastefully as they always do. We’ll keep you updated of any new information.
