OSU Turns in Record Academic All-Conference Numbers
OSU players have been getting it done in the classroom this season.
Oklahoma State broke its own record for Academic All-Big 12 selections with 26, up from its previous school record 25 last year. This ties with Iowa State for most in the Big 12 this season.
Thirteen Cowboys earned first-team academic honors including a GPA of 3.2 or higher: Britton Abbott, Matt Ammendola, Rhett Boles, Logan Carter, Tyler Ferguson, Korie Fraustro, Triston Grant, Ryan Haymaker, Justice Hill, Brock Martin, Amen Ogbongbemiga, Dillon Stoner, Landon Wolf.
And 13 more, earned second-team academic honors with a GPA of 3.00 to 3.19: Tyrell Alexander, LD Brown, Taylor Cornelius, Sione Finefeuiaki, Matt Hockett, Tyron Johnson, Marcus Keyes, Jake McClure, Thabo Mwaniki, Walker Reed, Shane Richards, Ry Schneider, Tylan Wallace.
Mike Gundy talks a lot about culture and leadership and his affinity for players who don’t speak much. These can sometimes come across as cliche (and sometimes they are). But it’s also easy to forget that, while big business, college football is still rooted in, and is a vehicle for, an education.
Gundy has put his money where his mouth is when it comes to the value he places on his players’ success in the classroom. That total of 13 first-team all-academic selections is tied for second-best in school history and the four highest showings have come in the last four years.
