OSU Wrestling: Andrew Shomers Transferring From Edinboro to Oklahoma State
Following the recent transfer of Dakota Geer, Oklahoma State has capitalized on that Edinboro-to-Stillwater pipeline to bring in another wrestler, Andrew Shomers, a source confirmed with PFB that he has enrolled and is officially transferring.
As a sophomore at Edinboro last year Shomers went 30-8 and was an NCAA qualifier. He also bested last year’s starter at 157 for the Cowboys, Jonce Blaylock, 3-0 in the dual in Stillwater. Shomers has two years of eligibility remaining and is eligible to start right away.
On the surface it doesn’t look like Joe Smith will be back down at 157 next year and Shomers will definitely be in the conversation to be the starter.
Jonce Blaylock is solid and I don’t believe that the head-to-head decision between he and Shomers gives any definite indication of who will win the job. I really love the fire Blaylock brings to every match. The guy doesn’t quit and I think as a senior he’ll be doing all he can to keep his starting spot. There’s also a chance that we could see one of the lower weights try to bulk up to here, but with the possible loss of Geo Martinez I don’t really see that being feasible for anyone else still on the roster.
I do think this move almost guarantees the Cowboys will have the ability to score points at the NCAA tournament at this weight and that’s huge for this team.
Here’s an interview with Shomers after last years NCAA tournament.
