OSU Wrestling: Austin Johnson Flips Commitment to Oklahoma State from OU

New Oklahoma State wrestling coach David Taylor persuaded another recruit to change his mind.

Austin Johnson announced Thursday via Instagram that he committed to OSU. He previously committed to Oklahoma in April, the month before Taylor replaced John Smith as the Cowboys’ head coach.

Although committed to a rival before Taylor even took over, Johnson already had some ties to OSU’s new leader. Johnson is from Pennsylvania, where Taylor had resided since getting to Penn State in 2009. Johnson also trained at and competed for Taylor’s club in the state, M2 Training Center.

Johnson is a top 50 recruit in the 2025 class out of Muncy High School, where he won a Pennsylvania state title at 215 pounds and is a three-time finalist. He’s also a two-time Fargo All-American. Johnson was also drawing interest from colleges as a football player before his commitment to OU. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards every season of his preps career so far.

With Johnson’s addition, OSU’s 2025 class is now at 11 known commits. Five of those have come since Taylor took over at OSU. The class is highlighted by Stillwater High School’s LaDarion Lockett, who is ranked as the third best pound-for-pound prospect in the class, according to FloWrestling.
