OSU Wrestling: Cowboys Beat Iowa State 27-12
The Cowboys are 11-0.
For the second time this weekend, the back half of the Cowboys’ lineup proved too tough to overcome.
The Oklahoma State wrestling team beat Iowa State 27-12 on Sunday in Ames. At intermission, the No. 13 Cyclones led the No. 3 Cowboys 12-4 with ISU winning four of the first five bouts. But after everyone got up, stretched their legs and hit the concession stands, OSU was ready to roll.
Cameron Amine got the ball rolling at 165 pounds, besting Aiden Riggins with an 11-4 major decision. It’s Amine’s second bonus-point victory of the weekend after he majored Northern Iowa’s Jack Thomsen 10-2 on Friday.
Then came Dean Hamiti Jr. at 174 pounds. Smooth as a dancer, Haimiti picked apart MJ Gaitan with a 20-4 technical fall. Hamiti scored 10 points in the first period alone. This win tied the dual at 12 despite the Cyclones winning four matches to OSU’s three. All the bonus.
And just like that… We’re all square.

Dustin Plott responded to his Friday night loss to Parker Keckeisen by beating No. 13 Evan Bockman with an 11-2 major decision. It was Plott’s 10th bonus-point win of the season.
Luke Surber and true freshman Sawyer Bartelt had a physical matchup at 197 pounds. Surber had a lead in the third period when Bartelt suffered a leg injury. Bartelt tried to finish the match but ended up having to medically forfeit.
To close, Wyatt Hendrickson smothered Daniel Herrera in the heavyweight match. Hendrickson didn’t give Herrera a point, winning 17-0.
Elsewhere in the dual, Reece Witcraft got the call at 133 pounds, as his battle with Cael Hughes for that spot in OSU’s lineup continues. It wasn’t a great weekend for OSU at the weight. Hughes lost to No. 21 Julian Farber on Friday. Witcraft lost to No. 5 Evan Frost on Sunday. Both were tough matches.
Caleb Fish, OSU’s Friday night hero, lost on Sunday to No. 12 Cody Chittum 4-2. It had a little bit of controversy. David Taylor threw a challenge brick to review what he, and a lot of others, thought was a takedown for Fish, but after review, it was ruled no takedown. For what it’s worth, there was an earlier review in the match that went Fish’s way. It was still a solid weekend for Fish, with his Friday night win against No. 4 Ryder Downey. Fish should be in the All-American conversation after jumping down to the weight after the season started.
OSU is 11-0 this season with eight of those wins coming against ranked opponents. The Cowboys return home for a dual against No. 23 Missouri next Sunday (Feb. 2). It’s OSU’s last home dual of the season.
