The Cowboys absolutely beat the brakes off of South Dakota State 45-6 on Saturday night.

The expected marquee match-up of the night was Daton Fix vs. NCAA champion Seth Gross. It didn’t happen. It was reported that Gross had complications with a nagging back injury and was unable to complete.

The lone loss the Cowboys took on the night was when All-American Boo Lewallen injury defaulted out after taking a shot and injuring his shoulder when Henry Pohlmeyer countered. I went back and watched the video a few times, it’s really difficult to see what exactly happened. Unfortunately, there’s no doubt it was bad. He was visibly in an extreme amount of pain.
Hopefully Boo is okay. We’ll look to find out more about the injury as soon as the information is available. Fortunately for the team, OSU is deep at the lower weights. It’s expected that Redshirt Freshman Kaden Gfeller will step in at 149 tomorrow vs. Minnesota, and may be asked to take over going forward.
Without All-American’s Boo Lewallen and Preston Weigel, the dual with Minnesota Sunday evening becomes a lot more interesting. Gfeller and Marsden are more than serviceable, they’re both very good wrestlers, but Minnesota will make for a much more competitive dual than South Dakota State.
