OSU Wrestling: Every Cowboy Included in Second Set of Individual Coaches Rankings
Three Cowboys debuted in the rankings, including Daton Fix.
Enter Daton Fix.
All 10 starting Oklahoma State wrestlers were included in the NCAA’s latest individual coaches rankings that were released Thursday. Seven Cowboys were in the first set of rankings on Jan. 22.
These are the rankings used to determine seeding for postseason tournaments and are voted on by 14 coaches, with two coaches from each of the seven conferences. The Big 12 Wrestling Championships will be March 9-10 in Tulsa, followed by the NCAA Wrestling Championships on March 21-23 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Daton Fix, Teague Travis and Luke Surber were the three Cowboys to debut in the rankings this time around. All were in and out of the lineup leading up to the first set of rankings, either from injury for Fix and Surber, or moving up a weight for Travis. In order to be considered for the rankings, wrestlers have to have at least eight matches on the season, and at least one in the last 30 days, against Division-I opponents at the respected weight class, according to the NCAA.
Fix, a three-time NCAA finalist, debuted at No. 2 behind freshman Ryan Crookham of Lehigh at 133 pounds. Travis came in at No. 10 at 157, while Surber is the lowest-ranked Cowboy at No. 22 at 197.
Along with Fix, Dustin Plott is the highest-ranked OSU wrestler, also at No. 2 at 184. Izzak Olejnik is also inside the top five at 165 pounds at No. 4. Of the 10 ranked OSU wrestlers, seven are inside the top 10 of their respective weight class.
