It took two days from the end of the NCAA Wrestling Championships for a Cowboy wrestler to enter the transfer portal.

Oklahoma State 149-pounder Sammy Alvarez reportedly entered the transfer portal on Monday, according to Flo’s Off-Season Transfer Tracker.

Alvarez wrestled in 20 matches for OSU this season, including four starts in dual meets. He made those dual starts in the midst of a position battle with redshirt freshman Jordan Williams, who ultimately won the starting job back after having that spot most of the season.

In his first and presumably only season in Stillwater, Alvarez was 15-5 and 2-2 in duals. He transferred to OSU in the middle of last season in January from Rutgers, where he qualified for the NCAA tournament at 133 pounds as a freshman. In the 2022-23 season, Alvarez bumped up to 141 pounds and got as high as No. 8 in national rankings before transferring. He was ineligible to participate the first semester of this past season.

Alvarez has never redshirted but wrestled only three matches in 2020-21 before an injury ended his season early. He was ranked fifth before suffering the injury. As a junior in 2021-22, Alvarez was 8-2 at 133 pounds. He was 13-2 last season before transferring to OSU.

Alvarez’s next destination would be his third and final stop.
