Path to the Draft: Rudolph Out of Boot and Washington Wants Other Cowboys

Published

on

It’s that time of year. The Super Bowl is upon us, and once again the majority of football fans are rooting against a team instead of for one. But those remaining 30 NFL fan bases already have their eye on late April and the upcoming NFL Draft along with all of the events that take place leading  up to it.

As Oklahoma State fans, this is an especially fun and exciting year for the draft. Several of the best to ever suit up in orange are on to the next step of their careers. From here until draft day, we’ll keep you abreast of what’s going on with each step of the process.

Senior Bowl

This past weekend, three former Cowboys took part in the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Mason Rudolph showed up for measurements and interviews complete with his fashionable walking boot, and two of his favorite targets in James Washington and Marcell Ateman were a full go.

The game itself was not a great showcase for OSU’s first 1,000-yard receiver duo — although Marcell Ateman finished his one catch in the end zone. James Washington didn’t even make a catch in the exhibition, but both saw their draft stock rise through some impressive moments during the week’s practice.

Shrine Game

The weekend before, three other Cowboys took part in the East-West Shrine Game. Departing senior offensive linemen Brad Lundblade and Zachary Crabtree and safety Tre Flowers all got a chance to get on the field in front of NFL scouts and to meet them face to face.

Prospect Updates

• Mason Rudolph is out of his walking boot ahead of schedule and should be ready to make the most of the NFL Combine once his invite is made official.

• James Washington didn’t get a chance to showcase his talents in the Senior Bowl game but did enough in the practices leading up to it to boost his draft stock even more.

• Baltimore Ravens Assistant GM Eric DeCosta is high on Washington.

“He’s built like a running back, he’s got a very strong body,” DeCosta said of Washington. “I think he’s got great hands, a competitiveness about him.”

• Although some scouts are worried about more complex route trees.

• Marcell Ateman caught just one pass in the Senior Bowl but he found pay dirt.

• Center Brad Lundblade has secured representation with Team Sports Agency out of Dallas, Texas.

• Lundblade from the East-West Shrine Game.

• And here’s Lundblade with fellow O-lineman Zach Crabtree and outgoing safety Tre Flowers at the Shrine Game.
