Patrick Macon Named NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year

The Cowboys are going to be without a few important pieces next year. The linebacker group, especially, will take a hit, losing key contributors Jordan Burton and Devante Averette.

But Glenn Spencer’s got a little help coming in the way of Patrick Macon, the juco-transfer who committed to Oklahoma State last week and has since signed his letter of intent.

The sophomore from Arizona Western College was also just named as the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year. He is a playmaker and was the star of one of the best defenses among the juco ranks.

Macon’s impressive 27.5 (!) tackles for loss led the nation this season. He had a career game with 16 tackles (13 solo), five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles against Phoenix (Ariz.) earlier this season.

Macon is just the next in a line of defensive contributors that OSU has brought in from the juco ranks. He should come right in and compete for a playing time and his experience will be needed with a relatively young linebacker corps.
