Paul Smith Says Nyc Burns Has Physical Tools be Starter at OSU

One of two additions at quarterback for the 2016 recruiting class, Berryhill prospect Nyc Burns, a preferred walk-on, has wasted no time getting to work in preparation of his move to Stillwater later this year.

He has enlisted the training of Paul Smith, a former Tulsa quarterback who helps train quarterbacks in the Tulsa area now.

After their first training session, Paul Smith spoke glowingly about the Oklahoma State signee to the Tulsa World.

“Burns has the physical tools to be a starting quarterback at Oklahoma State.”

“He’s not extremely raw. He’s a little bit raw on a few mechanical things. My biggest takeaway is that he has the tools to be a Division I quarterback. No doubt in my mind. He could be (a Big 12) or SEC quarterback because of the physical tools. There are only a handful of guys who can stand on the right hash and throw a 15-yard out route to the opposite boundary and not have arc on the ball. Over the last six years, I haven’t worked with very many kids who can do that.

Exhibit A:

Burns, who stands at 6-5 and is listed at 185-lbs on HUDL, has the frame of a Div. I quarterback, but a redshirt season and a year under Rob Glass learning the system will certainly do him well. Working with Paul Smith and, later, Mike Yurcich, it will be interesting to follow Burns’ development at Oklahoma State.
