PFB Picks: Predictions for Oklahoma State’s Season Opener against UT-Martin
Picking the score, the MVP and the uniforms for OSU’s game against UT-Martin.
Predicting this Cowboy football season feels like being a meteorologist in Oklahoma — there is so much going on that it feels impossible.
Oklahoma State opens its 2025 season with a game against UT-Martin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Boone Pickens Stadium. The Cowboys have an almost entirely new roster and coaching staff after a disappointing 3-9 2024 campaign, and Thursday will be our first look at just how well OSU did in the portal this offseason. Here is how we see the game playing out.

Score: Oklahoma State 38, UT-Martin 10
Game MVP: Trent Howland
Uniform: White (retro brand) – Orange – White
Thoughts: Considering OSU listed five guys as the starting running back on the first depth chart, picking one as the game MVP might be a reach. But I landed on Howland because if I was an FCS defensive lineman playing in what could be a rainy night in Stillwater, I’d least want to tackle the 6-foot-2, 247-pound bruiser. I picked the retro brand on the uniforms because OSU is marketing the game as a Throwback Thursday. As for the game itself, I think the talent discrepancy will be noticeable and the Cowboys will cruise.

Score: Oklahoma State 35, UT-Martin 10
Game MVP: Christian Fitzpatrick
Uniform: White (Brand) – Orange – White
Thoughts: I could have gone with OSU’s newly named QB1 Hauss Hejny, but I think I’ll go off the beaten path a bit. Both Cowboy passers need a guy who they can trust to make plays down the field, and Fitzpatrick is a good a pick as any, knowing what we know now (which is not that much). I think OSU goes to the vet early and often, and I see at least one TD for him that helps the Pokes pull away.

Score: Oklahoma State 41, UT-Martin 13
Game MVP: Christian Fitzpatrick
Uniform: White (brand) – Orange – White
Thoughts: The transfer-heavy Cowboys just have too much talent for this one to stay close. Quarterback Hauss Hejny will break a 20-yard run in this one and flirt with 200-plus passing yards, but one of the receivers will steal the show with a two-touchdown performance. Fitzpatrick seems as good a guess as anyone there. Quarterback Zane Flores will play well enough to force Gundy to continue discussing the quarterback battle into Oregon week, but overall, OSU leaves this game with more answers than questions for the first time in almost a year.
