The 2024 season has both flown by and lasted an excruciatingly long time. That type of paradox is perhaps the most logical way to view the Cowboys’ 0-7 start to Big 12 play.

Oklahoma State closes its home slate with a game against Texas Tech at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Boone Pickens Stadium. It’ll be Senior Day for Brennan Presley, Alan Bowman and other Cowboys. Tech travels to Stillwater at 6-4 on the season and 4-3 in Big 12 play.

The Red Raiders have been an example of just how kooky this conference has been in 2024, as Tech went from ending Iowa State’s undefeated season in Ames before going back to Lubbock and losing by 14 to Colorado. The Cowboys … well, it hasn’t been going well. Here is how we see Saturday’s game shaping out.

Score: Oklahoma State 31, Texas Tech 28

OSU MVP: Brennan Presley

Uniform: Black (Patriot Pete)-Orange-Black

Thoughts: Alright, stay with me here — if not now, when? It’s the last home game of the season, and on top of that, Mike Gundy-led teams have been good out of bye weeks. The Cowboys’ best Big 12 performance of this season came out of a bye when they traveled to Provo. On top of that, Texas Tech’s defense is suspect, ranking last in the league in points allowed a game and 15th in yards allowed per game. (Don’t even look at how Tech’s offensive stats stack up to OSU’s defensive stats.) So, I say it again — if not now, when? With as good as Colorado has looked as of late, this feels like OSU’s last shot to get off the 0 in conference wins, and I think the Cowboys find a way to get it done.

Score: Texas Tech 35, Oklahoma State 31

OSU MVP: Brennan Presley

Uniform: Black (Brand)-Orange-Black

Thoughts: I am to the point where I don’t know what to think. I see a scenario in which OSU comes to play for its seniors and attempts to salvage some sliver of favor with the home crowd to squeeze out a win. I see a very real scenario in which Alan Bowman plays his best game as a Cowboy. With that being said, the Red Raiders have the best scoring offense in the Big 12. They also have the worst scoring defense in the league, but just ahead of them are the Cowboys. This could either be a hard-fought game or an ugly one. Or both.

Dekota Gregory

Score: Texas Tech 45, Oklahoma State 31

OSU MVP: Ollie Gordon

Uniform: Orange (Brand) – Orange – White

Thoughts: At least publicly, Mike Gundy hasn’t changed anything during the bye week. So why should the result change? The Red Raiders put up 35.5 points a game. Both defenses are bad, so the Pokes could put up some points too (finally), but in the end, Tech is still better on both sides of the ball. Tech’s bad defense should make for a fun day watching Ollie for presumably the last time in Boone Pickens Stadium, at least.
