PFB Picks: Predictions for Oklahoma State’s Week 9 Road Trip to Baylor
Predictions for the score, game MVP and OSU’s uniform combo.
The Cowboys came out of the bye showing their first significant improvement since the start of Big 12 play, maybe all year. But Oklahoma State fans, apparently, can’t have nice things.
Garret Rangel went down with an injury and will be out for some time. With Alan Bowman back in, the Pokes were able to nearly pull of a Top-15 upset on the road, but the rug was again ripped out from under their feet, sending them home 0-4 in conference play.
Will Bowman and the Cowboys be able to build off any moral victories that were won, or will it be more of the same? We’ll find out Saturday afternoon as the Cowboys visit Baylor, a team with its own problems, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Let’s see how the PFB staff sees this one playing out.
Marshall Scott
Score: Baylor 38, Oklahoma State 28
OSU MVP: Brennan Presley
Uniform: White (Cursive Cowboys)-White (Black)-White
Thoughts: In good faith, I can’t pick OSU’s banged up defense to beat a team that proved capable of scoring 59 points just last week. The Bears don’t boast the most formidable rushing attack (a weakness for OSU’s defense), but Baylor back Bryson Washington ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns last week on 11.6 yards a carry. Hopefully OSU’s offense, without sparkplug Garret Rangel, can build off the successes it had last week. But, there’s just been too much data against the Pokes lately for me to feel comfortable picking them.
Kyle Cox
Score: Oklahoma State 35, Baylor 28
OSU MVP: Brennan Presley
Uniform: Orange (Brand)-White-Black
Thoughts: For those who’ve been following along, Ollie Gordon finally qualified as a Game MVP in Provo so my moratorium on picking another candidate has been lifted. (It lasted way too long.) Just to mix things up, I’ll go with Brennan Presley. This seems like a game that he could go off. Since the start of Big 12 play, Baylor has averaged 286 passing yards allowed (14th in the league) and has given up 11 passing TDs (tied for last place) and the Bears rank 117th in pass coverage per PFF. I also predict that Alan Bowman bounces back and has one of his best games of the year.
Dekota Gregory
Score: Baylor 34, Oklahoma State 27
OSU MVP: Ollie Gordon
Uniform: White (Brand)-White (Orange)-White
Thoughts: The Cowboys haven’t given up less than 38 points in three games, so I guess Saturday could technically be an improvement. But the Bears just hung 59 on Texas Tech, and OSU’s defense couldn’t stop a car in park. Offensively, the only faith I gained was broken (literally). I won’t pick the Pokes again until proven wrong.
