It was a classic Big 12 shootout in the middle of the last conference Bedlam series on the schedule.

After the Cowboys’ win Friday night, Oklahoma evened the series with a 19-10 victory Saturday afternoon at O’Brate Stadium. Although Game 2 was a day game, there were still plenty of fireworks lighting up Stillwater with 10 home runs smashed in the contest, four of which were hit by the Cowboys.

The long balls started with a pair from OU in the second inning for the first two runs of the game. The Sooners led 3-0 after the inning thanks to the solo shots and an RBI groundout. Oklahoma State answered with four runs the next frame, though, to get its only lead of the game, but only briefly. Avery Ortiz put the Cowboys on the board with a homer over the left-field wall that also scored Colin Brueggemann. Zach Ehrhard then singled up the middle to drive in Lane Forsythe before Jaxson Crull scored from third a wild pitch to give OSU a 4-3 lead.

The Sooners outscored OSU 10-3 the next two innings, though, putting up five runs in both innings. OU hit a pair of homers during that span. The bats finally cooled in the fifth with the only inning since the first where both teams didn’t score as two zeroes were put up.

But every time the Cowboys would chip away the rest of the game, the Sooners would use another long ball to stay comfortable. OSU scored two in the sixth, but OU put up three the frame before with just one swing from Jaxon Willits. Jackson Nicklaus scored two for OU with another swing in the seventh as OSU failed to cross to the plate. The Cowboys did shut out OU in the eighth but put narrowed the margin by only one with an Ehrhard solo shot over left field.

Ehrhard has been on a tear that continued Saturday, going 4-for-5 with a pair of homers, a double, three runs and four RBIs. His season average has escalated to a team-best .364.

After the frame that included Ehrhard’s second homer, rain moved into Stillwater, causing an hour-and-a-half weather delay. The game resumed to finish that last inning, during which OU added one more because of a wild pitch.
