MATCH-BY-MATCH RECAP

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A pair of Cowboys earned All-America status in Friday’s early session at the T-Mobile Center, and two more Cowboys are looking to add to that total.

Daton Fix and Dustin Plott continued their streak of being All-Americans by advancing into Friday night’s semifinals.

Fix edged out a win in tiebreakers against Iowa State’s Evan Frost. It’s the third time Fix has beaten Frost this season, but this was by far the closest match. Fix will take on Michigan’s Dylan Ragusin, the 5 seed, in the semis.

Plott put up points in his quarterfinal bout against Penn State’s Bernie Truax, beating the Nittany Lion via a 16-6 major decision. Plott will get 2 seed Isaiah Salazar (Minnesota) in the semis.

Elsewhere, Troy Spratley and Izzak Olejnik are still alive in the consolation bracket, needing just one more win to become All-Americans.

Spratley started the day in the winner’s bracket but fell to Iowa’s Drake Ayala in the quarterfinals. Spratley will wrestle South Dakota State’s Tanner Jordan, the 23 seed, for his shot at All-America honors as a redshirt freshman. The pair have wrestled twice this season, with Jordan winning the first matchup and Spratley winning the most recent.

Olejnik started the day in the consolation bracket and has since won a pair of matches to get to Friday night’s session. He’ll wrestle Wisconsin’s Dean Hamiti, the 5 seed, Friday night.

The Cowboys finished the session tied for ninth in the team standings.
