Poll Question Recap: Fans Excited to See New Defensive Scheme
This year’s football squad sports a few more new faces than we’ve grown accustomed to in recent years. Heck, most fans who attended the Spring Game needed a roster in hand to learn who was who. Two of those new faces will occupy the starting quarterback and defensive coordinator position. That’s exciting! But also kind of scary. Yesterday I asked which you are most looking forward to.
Here are the full results:
Which new thing in 2018 are you most looking forward to?

I tripped up a little on the wording of this week’s poll question — I should have said something along the lines “which are you most excited for” — but most readers understood the premise and voted accordingly.
Here’s some of your thoughts:
Josh: I’m excited to see a defense that plays press coverage on the corners, its been so long I don’t know what I will do when we get a couple of pick sixes. With the rb stable that we have the QB is going to PA pass his way to 300/game regardless of who is playing. I’m also looking forward to seeing what our special teams do will it be a repeat of last year or will we actually try to return a punt? I’m very excited for football and its just May. Changes=Opportunities.
jt: I’m always excited to see a defense that consistently doesn’t give up a 1st down on a 3rd and 12.
Les Miles: My gut tells me corndog will be the starter. I think Dru Brown may come in and either possibly gain a starting role or be the backup. SS will redshirt.
Mark: In that case, I think I’ll have to go Quarterback. I’m anxious to see who wins the job and what the production drop-off will be.
I don’t expect the defense to light it up this season. I think they will be serviceable, but I don’t expect significant progression until year 2 of the new look.
I agree with the 665 of you who voted for defense. I think whoever is playing quarterback will do a serviceable job and have huge help with a stacked backfield and equally stacked(?) receiving corp. I understand leaning the other direction though.
But always remember:
