Poll Results: Mixed Feelings Over Football/Hoops Excitement

Published

on

I have to say I’m pretty surprised a these poll results. Although I shouldn’t be considering Brad Underwood has been doing state-wide toasts to GIA all month.

Almost as many of you are as excited about this upcoming basketball season as you are about a football team that is 5-2 (*6-1) and squarely in the mix of the Big 12 title race in late October. I mean, I understand it, but still … OSU is still in the mix for the Big 12 title in football!

I know a lot of this hinges on not looking good against Kansas and the Big 12 title race effectively being over for OSU if it loses this Saturday, but rarely does a hoops team that goes 3-15 the year before garner this kind of love. Of course rarely does a coach bring the optimism Underwood has brought to the STW.

I’m with the majority here because I still believe in this football team (maybe foolishly), but I’m also more excited about Saturdays in mid-January than I’ve been in a long, long time.

On to the comments …

David S: It’s Homecoming weekend during the football season! We have an undefeated nationally ranked opponent coming to Stillwater. Ask again in mid January.

Good at Crootin: “More excited” about? basketball. Doesn’t mean i won’t be screaming at my TV every Saturday for the next 2 months (I will be). But i am pumped to see what Underwood can do this to existing squad and the newcomers. Can he turn any of the 4 or 5 SFs we have on roster into the next Thomas Walkup? Defense first? Treadmill on the side of the court during practice? Hell yes, i’m all in.

OSU Student: I am still more excited for football, because its the dead middle of the season and we are two lost fumbles on the road against a top 10 undefeated team away from being undefeated ourselves (by rule).

That being said, I am super excited for this basketball season. We always underachieve ever since Eddie left, but that was mostly due to the work of Sean and Travis. I truly believe Brad Underwood can be the guy here. I’m drinking allllll the kool-aid!! We won’t win the conference or anything crazy like that, but we could definitely make the tournament this year and that would be a huge plus in BU’s first season. He’s also a hard, confident recruiter going after the big name kids and I absolutely love that.

T-Bone: Our football team is on the verge of doing something great. I don’t think they have played great yet but there is opportunity until we lose a game. So I ma still excited about football. The fat guy has lateraled the ball but he hasn’t sung yet. The B12 Championship is still available to us.
