The top of the Big 12 is chaotic, and that’s evident in the national polls.

There are four Big 12 teams in the AP Poll and three in the Coaches Poll. Oklahoma State and Iowa State are the only teams that are 4-1 in Big 12 play and not in either poll. Meanwhile, No. 7/6 Texas is ahead of No. 10/11 Oklahoma despite the Sooners beating the Longhorns. And No. 22/23 Kansas and No. 25/RV Kansas State are ahead of Oklahoma State despite Oklahoma State beating both of those teams. It’s a mess.

The Cowboys would be No. 26 in an expanded AP Poll and No. 27 in an expanded Coaches Poll.

A lot of those oddities ought to get worked out this upcoming weekend with Texas playing Kansas State, Oklahoma State playing Oklahoma and Kansas playing Iowa State.

Future Big 12 member Utah stayed in the rankings at No. 18/18 after its 35-6 loss to Oregon.

The Cowboys and Sooners kick at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Boone Pickens Stadium.
