The Reload: Yurcich Hanging With Harbaugh, 2018 QB Planning Visit, New In-state offer

The Reload is PFB’s recruiting recap, catching you up to speed on the latest news and rumors surrounding Oklahoma State recruiting, with an ear to the ground for what to expect in the future.

Oklahoma State in-state recruiting

Oklahoma State landed a commitment from 2017 Oologah defensive end Brock Martin on Wednesday. Martin held offers from Baylor, Memphis, Colorado State, and many others. But ultimately, the Oklahoma State offer was the only one he was looking for. “I’ve always been an OSU fan”, he told PFB.

Martin was offered just a week ago, and as I mentioned yesterday he didn’t have to spend a lot of time to think on it. Ultimately the Cowboy offer was the one he was waiting on. And with the staff not signing a 2016 defensive end in last years cycle, the coaching staff has to be thrilled they’ve landed two very talented ends in a week with Nelson Mbanasor and Brock Martin.

Another in-state recruiting note comes in the form of an offer to Tulsa Union wide receiver CJ Moore. Moore is a 2018 prospect who has turned heads this spring, with offers from Texas A&M, Cincinnati, Georgia, TCU, Texas Tech and now OSU.

It’s not a coincidence he’s blown up this spring. Moore is a physical specimen playing for the Tulsa powerhouse, who stands at 6-foot-5 (!!) and 175-pounds. But of late, Tulsa Union has been sending a lot of talent to Norman, not Stillwater. And here’s what he told Scout.com on his outlook towards the Sooners: “At OU I have a couple of good friends up there and Bob Stoops knows what he is doing and he is a good coach. Tre Brown (2017 OU commit) is in my ear a lot in practice.”

But if you look at history with tall receivers, the Cowboys seem to have a more reliable track record than those on his offer list.

2018 Quarterback Planning Visit

Cameron Rising of Newbury Park, Calif., is planning to make a trip to Stillwater later this summer, according to a source. Rising holds an offer from OSU along with OU, Arizona State, Michigan State, LSU, Alabama and many more.

Rising is an elite up-and-comer who, as a sophomore last year, threw for 40 touchdowns and just one interception. I’m no football expert, but I hear that’s fairly efficient.

Twins planning visit this summer

Joshua and Jordan Moore, standout receivers from Yoakum, Texas, took to twitter to announce they will be visiting OSU, among other schools later this summer.

I’m not so sure how Oklahoma State has done it, but they’ve seemingly put themselves in great position to land a set of twins in back-to-back-to-back recruiting classes. (2016: Cade and Zach Smith, 2017: Tylan and Tracin Wallace). The Moore twins have 29 Div. I offers between the two, including from Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and others. Just as twins go, a lot like to be packaged deals. I think the Moore twins will be a packaged deal for whatever school they commit to play for in 2018.

Mike Yurcich Hanging with Harbaugh

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in any conversation with Jim Harbaugh at a satellite camp…

Cowboy OC Mike Yurcich is present at a satellite camp today being hosted by Georgia and Michigan in Atlanta.

Fortunately for Yurcich, he may be able to stop in and see some of his major firepower for the 2017 class. Quarterback commit Jelani Woods is from Ellenwood, Georgia, and power running back JD King is down the road in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Another prospect Yurcich is targeting in the state of Georgia is cowboy back Lecitus Smith. Smith is the teammate of King and is a big-time 2017 target who has offers from Virginia Tech, Louisville, and a slew of others. Cowboy backs coach Jason McEndoo recently stopped in to see him, and I think the teammate connection with JD King could end up being a big factor to possibly land a 2-for-1 deal for the Fitzgerald standouts.

Marcus Arroyo working connection with elite receiver

The majority of the coaching staff is in Texas this week putting on satellite camps all across Texas. And ace recruiter Marcus Arroyo is taking advantage of his time in the Lone Star State. He sent out the below cryptic tweet, with the message “Freak show”… likely referencing Foster, TX standout Cedarian Lamb, a top target for OSU. Arroyo has frequently referenced Lamb as the “Foster Freak” in tweets. Lamb is a former Sooners commit who opened his recruitment recently.

In case you missed it… (Because I did)

Four-star linebacker Tyler Taylor made an unofficial visit to Stillwater last week. Taylor is a big-time prospect from Buford, Georgia, where the Cowboys have found success in recent years and especially in the 2017 class. Taylor has offers from Alabama, OU, Georgia, Florida, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and Texas. 25 scholarship offers in total.

Based on his twitter feed, the visit went really well and he seemed to come away impressed as a whole with the Cowboys. The 2017 class has one commitment at linebacker in Forney, Texas standout Brendan Vaughn. And Taylor would be an excellent complement to Vaughn. Vaughn is more of an outside/hybrid linebacker who could fill in at the star role, whereas Taylor could fill in up the middle in a Ryan Simmons type middle linebacker position.

I’m told Taylor may release his list of top schools as early as this week.
