Report: Oklahoma State Adds North Alabama Transfer Quarterback to Roster
OSU adds another quarterback.
There is a new quarterback on the Cowboys’ roster.
Noah Walters, a 6-foot, 190-pound redshirt junior is now a Cowboy. Robert Allen first reported the news.
Walters was Phil Steele’s 2022 ASUN Freshman of the Year and was a Jerry Rice Award finalists, an honor given to the FCS Freshman of the Year.
He played in all 11 of North Alabama’s games that season, throwing for 1,799 yards and 16 touchdowns to eight interceptions. He also ran for 159 yards and two more scores.
Walters started all 11 of North Alabama’s games again in 2023, where the threw for 2,346 yards and 21 touchdowns to 13 picks while running for another 387 yards and two scores. That 2023 season saw him set a school record for passing touchdowns in a game when he threw five against Austin Peay. He also caught a touchdown pass that season.
So, in two seasons at the FCS level, he threw for more than 4,000 yards and accounted for 42 touchdowns.
Walters went to school at UCF in 2024 but wasn’t on the football team.
He’s from Lincoln, Nebraska, where he helped lead Lincoln East to the playoffs in 2019, 2020 and 2021. He was the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior after he threw for 3,402 yards and 44 touchdowns.
Walters joins the squad after Hauss Hejny suffered a Jones fracture in the Cowboys’ season opener. Zane Flores, a fellow Nebraskan, came in for Hejny and started the Cowboys’ loss in Oregon. OSU’s roster also features a pair of true freshmen quarterbacks in Banks Bowen and Mason Schubert.
Oklahoma State plays Tulsa at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Boone Pickens Stadium.
