Report: Oklahoma State Hiring Todd Grantham as Defensive Coordinator
Grantham has a ton of experience with a lot of good coaches.
Mike Gundy’s next defensive coordinator has a ton of experience.
Oklahoma State is set to hire Todd Grantham to run the Cowboys’ defense. Grantham was most recently the New Orleans Saints’ defensive line coach. He’s also spent time as a coordinator with the Cleveland Browns (2005-07), Georgia (2010-13), Louisville (2014-16), Mississippi State (2017) and Florida (2018-21). Robert Allen and Chris Low first reported the news.
Before his time with the Saints, Grantham went through the Nick Saban school for analyst at Alabama in 2022, and that wasn’t his first time working under the perhaps the greatest college football coach of all time.
Grantham is a Virginia Tech alum, and he coached in Blacksburg from 1990 to 1995, primarily coaching defensive lineman. He took the same role at Michigan State in 1996 — where Saban was once upon a time the head coach. Grantham worked his way up to Saban’s assistant head coach in 1998.
After working with Saban, Grantham moved into the NFL game, spending time with the Colts and Texans before being hired to run the Browns’ defense. He was the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive line coach in 2008 and 2009.
Grantham moved back to the college game in 2010 to work under head coach Mark Richt at Georgia. He coached under Bobby Petrino at Louisville from 2014 to 2016 before getting on with Dan Mullen at Mississippi State. The Mullen-Grantham partnership continued when Mullen took head job at Florida in 2018.
This also makes sense to go with the Cowboys’ new reported defensive line coach Ryan Osborn, as Osborn was a defensive graduate assistant under Grantham at Mississippi State and Florida.
Grantham replaces Bryan Nardo as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator. Nardo coached just two seasons in Stillwater after Gundy hired him from Division-II Gannon.
