TRANSFER PORTAL TRACKER

Markell Samuel was set to be a big piece of the Cowboys’ offensive line in 2025, but a freak injury in a hotel walkthrough derailed those plans.

Now Samuel is reportedly hitting the portal, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Samuel was the Cowboys’ starting left tackle coming into the year. He played all 76 snaps of OSU’s season-opening win against UT-Martin. But in preparation for the Cowboys’ game against Oregon, Samuel suffered an injury in the hotel walkthrough that sidelined him for the rest of the season.

He transferred to OSU last offseason from Appalachian State, brining 18 starts at left tackle with him from Boone, North Carolina. He was an All-Sun Belt honorable mention in 2024 after starting all 11 of the Mountaineers’ games at left tackle and playing the second-most snaps among Sun Belt tackles.

When he went down with injury this year, redshirt freshman Nuku Mafi flipped from right tackle to left tackle while Nebraska transfer Grant Seagren filled in on the right side. Seagren entered the portal after Mike Gundy’s firing but played out the remainder of the season with the Cowboys.

OSU announced the hiring of Eric Morris last week, who — once the transfer portal opens nationwide on Jan. 2 — will have a lot of work to do at rebuilding the Pokes’ roster. Morris started that process Wednesday by signing 15 prospects on National Signing Day. That class included five offensive linemen.
