Rudolph’s Heisman Odds Improve after 4-TD Opener

Published

on

Mason Rudolph had himself quite a 2017 debut. The senior record-setter threw for 303 yards and three scores, rushed for another one and had just four incompletions. Vegas took note of the production — and of the firepower around Rudolph — and shortened his Heisman odds considerably.

As of August 31, Rudolph was given 25/1 odds to win that prestigious award given to college football’s best player. But after his captaining of Oklahoma State to a comfortable win in its home opener, he’s made a jump to 9/1 odds, now tied for fifth-best.

Here’s a look at the current odds according to sports betting service Bovada.

Current Heisman Odds
Player Position School Odds
Lamar Jackson QB Louisville 4/1
Sam Darnold QB USC 6/1
Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma 7/1
Josh Rosen QB UCLA 8/1
Mason Rudolph QB Oklahoma State 9/1
Saquon Barkely RB Penn State 9/1
Jalen Hurts QB Alabama 9/1
JT Barrett QB Ohio State 14/1
Derrius Guice RB LSU 16/1
Bo Scarbrough RB Alabama 20/1
Jake Browning QB Washington 20/1
Nick Chubb RB Georgia 25/1
Trace McSorley QB Penn State 25/1
Jarrett Stidham QB Auburn 33/1
Derwin James S Florida State 40/1
Nick Fitzgerald QB Mississippi State 40/1
Kamryn Pettway RB Auburn 40/1
Luke Falk QB Washington State 50/1

Other movers on the board were last year’s winner Lamar Jackson who is now the favorite at 4/1 odds. The previous favorite, USC’s Sam Darnold went from 9/2 odds to 5/1. Alabama’s Jalen Hurts jumped from 16/1 to 9/1 and UCLA’s Josh Rosen went from 25/1 to 8/1. Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield stuck at 7/1 odds.

With some of the big names — and big-name schools — in the mix, Rudolph would have to put up quite the numbers to get an invite to New York. Luckily for him, he will have every opportunity to do just that with the bevy of playmakers at his disposal. It should be a fun season for Oklahoma State fans. Just win and the accolades will follow.
