A top 10 scorer from the Big East is headed to Stillwater.
Seton Hall transfer Isaiah Coleman announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Friday. A 6-foot-5, 191-pound guard, Coleman led the Pirates in scoring with 15.6 points a game this past season, a tally that ranked 10th in the Big East. Coleman also led Seton Hall in rebounds, averaging 5.3 a game. He averaged 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals a game.
“Isaiah was at the top of every opponent scouting report last year but still found ways to put the ball in the basket at a high rate,” coach Steve Lutz said in OSU’s release. “He’s a dynamic wing who has the potential to impact both ends of the floor with his size and athleticism. He is a player who can score the ball in a variety of different ways. We’re excited to welcome him to the Cowboy Basketball family.”
Coleman was only a sophomore for the Pirates last season and should have two years of eligibility left.
Out of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Coleman made the Big East All-Freshman team in 2023-24 after averaging 5.4 points and 2.6 rebounds a game. He played in 33 of the Pirates’ games as a freshman and made three starts on a team that went 25-12 and won the NIT. Coleman scored in double figures seven times as a freshman, including putting up a season-high 17 in a game against Monmouth.
After that solid freshman season, Coleman took a big step forward as a sophomore, scoring in double figures in 23 of the 30 games he played in. He scored 20 or more points 11 times, including a career-high 27 against Marquette. He had a pair of double-doubles this season, as well.
Coleman led the Pirates in 3-points attempts this past season, taking 129 and making 38 (30%). That’s probably the next step in his offensive game, but in the meantime, his strengths as a versatile, two-way guard who can score at the rim makes him an excellent addition for the Cowboys.
Rivals considered Coleman the No. 81 recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, with Rivals, 247Sports and On3 all tabbing him as a four-star prospect. He played at Word of God Christian Academy and scored 17 points a game as a senior. He committed to Seton Hall over offers from Tennessee, Texas A&M, UConn, Marquette, Auburn, Mississippi State and others.
Coleman becomes OSU’s second portal commitment this offseason and of the day. Mississippi State transfer Kanye Clary also pledged to the Pokes on Thursday.
