Tylan and Chuba also talked about what the victory meant.

We posted their longer press conferences and meet time with the media here, but I thought it would be fun to go back and look at a few of the better quotes from Gundy and his team following the second biggest comeback in school history.

Gundy on Yurcich and that 1H

“[WVU defensive coordinator] Tony (Gibson) got us. Yurcich may not admit that, but he got us. We changed it up, and it gave us a chance to have some success. That’s the chess game. When you’ve been in this league as long as we have and as well as they know us and as well as we know them, there’s some of that that’s going on. Fortunately for us in this game we made the last play.”

Mike Yurcich on Next Man Up

“When you think about the injuries and who had to step up. Going into the game plan, we had a heavy dose of Jelani Woods and when he goes down and you are playing with your backup center and you don’t have Justice Hill, you are just hoping that guys step up to the opportunity. And they sure did. It’s just very exciting to be a part of it.”

Tylan Wallace on Confidence in Team

“I knew we had this, for sure. In the first half, they did some things that they didn’t really show on film all year. I’m really proud of the group as a whole because the rest of our guys really stepped up. I felt like I wasn’t playing as well as I should have and made a few mistakes out there, but I’m just happy that those guys could go out there, make plays and help our team win.”

Chuba on the Senior Sendoff

“We knew we had to do something big for the seniors. We wanted to let them go out with a bang and we just gave it all we had. It was a big win. I’ve only been here for two years, but I know how hard these guys have worked and they deserve it, so I’m really happy for them.”

Tony Gibson on Mike & Mike’s Changes

“They spread us out, we had too many guys blow some and miss tackles. It was an ugly second half. I thought the first half we came in and played well, created turnovers and created momentum a little bit.”

Dana Holgorsen on Blowing a 17-Point Lead

“They have been in a lot of these games and you can tell they had a little bit better mindset down the stretch than we did. It’s disappointing that we had a chance to close them out and we didn’t. That’s disappointing. We had them on the ropes and didn’t close them out. Great teams close people out. We didn’t do it.”

Dana on Why He Went for Those 4th Downs

“Clearly (because our defense couldn’t stop anybody). Everybody in the stadium saw that.”
