Seven Things to Know as Oklahoma State Tries to go 10-1 Against KU Under Gundy
The last kick return and conference shutout for the Pokes have both been a while.
Hey, there’s an actual Oklahoma State football game on Saturday against Kansas in Lawrence. It felt at times this week like OSU would never play again, and we would be left to snipe at each other from behind our phones and computers for the rest of time.
But lo and behold, real foosball to be played on Saturday (if that’s what you call whatever it is that Kansas has been doing on Saturdays for the last few years).
I perused the game notes and found seven things you need to know about OSU’s matchup with the Fightin’ Billy Selfs on Saturday morning.
All the points
Oklahoma State has now scored 4,444 points this decade. Only Oregon (4,811) has more overall and more per game (41.1 for OSU and 43.7 for Oregon).
So close to a century
Speaking of repeating numbers, Justice Hill currently averages 99.9 yards per game over the course of his entire career. At this point I can’t tell whether I definitely believe that’s going over 100 by the end of his time in Stillwater or whether he won’t get enough carries to make it happen.
Seven in a row
A win on Saturday would give OSU seven consecutive road wins — what if I told you one of the most prolific teams in school history went 6-0 on the road and played in the Camping World Bowl — and it would make OSU 16-2 (!) in its last 18 true road games.
Supreme Justice
Two more Justice notes below.
- If he scores a rushing TD he will tie the Big 12 record with 11 straight games with a rushing TD.
- He is also averaging 8.43 (!) yards per carry on the season. That’s 0.79 yards per carry better than Barry Sanders in 1988.
? Clemson and Alabama
Here are your updated national sacks leaders by team.
- Oklahoma State: 4.8
- Boston College: 4.0
- Clemson: 4.0
- Alabama: 4.0
- Ohio State: 3.8
- Penn State: 3.8
- Temple: 3.8
I know it’s early and OSU hasn’t played a great slate, but it’s still wild to see Clemson and Bama looking up at Oklahoma State in a big defensive category like that one.
Did you know?
The last time OSU shut out a conference opponent on the road was — I bet a lot of you know what’s coming — at OU in 1995. The 12-0 game. Spencer Sanders was -4 years old.
Four years ago
It’s been four years now since Tyreek Hill returned a kick 99 yards for the score and victory at KU. That doubles as the last time the Pokes had a kick return TD. I’m here for Chuba to bookend it.
