The Big 12 softball coaches predict that the Cowgirls are the league’s second-best team entering 2026.

The conference announced its preseason poll on Wednesday, where Oklahoma State came second to reigning national runner-up Texas Tech. The Red Raiders received 10 first-place votes with the only other vote coming from Tech coach Gerry Glasco for OSU.

Two Cowgirls also made the 18-player All-Big 12 preseason squad in pitcher Ruby Meylan and infielder Rosie Davis.

Davis is entering her junior season at OSU. She was a Freshman All-American in 2024 before being named to the All-Big 12 First Team as a sophomore last season. She’s a career .351 hitter with 24 doubles, 17 home runs and 86 RBIs to her name. She has a career .444 on-base percentage.

Davis’ work in the field will look a bit different in 2026, as OSU coach Kenny Gajewski told reporters on Wednesday that Davis is moving from second base to third.

Meylan enters her senior season after transferring from Washington to OSU ahead of her junior year. She was an All-American and All-Big 12 First Team selection in her first year with the Cowgirls. In 148 innings pitched, Meylan posted a 2.13 ERA. She had 169 strikeouts while walking 49.

It’s hard to believe with all this snow and ice on the ground, but softball season is just over a week away.

The Cowgirls start their 2026 campaign as part of the Stanford Invitational. From Feb. 5 through Feb. 7, the Cowgirls will play Stanford twice, Cal twice and San Jose State once while in Palo Alto. Then they’ll go cross country to Florida for the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational from Feb. 12 through Feb. 14, where the Cowgirls will play games against Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, UCLA and Duke.
